Welcome to Urban Voices Community Media Ltd
A wild, beautiful mash-up of community power, broadcast mayhem, and stubborn Northern resilience.
We’re Not Your Average Broadcast Media Company!
We’re not here for cookie-cutter content, corporate waffle, or robotic presenters who sound like they’ve never been outside. We don’t do posh scripts or soulless productions that feel like they’ve been run through a PR blender. If you’re looking for shiny nonsense with no substance, this probably ain’t the place for you!
We’re here to build something real. Something raw. Something that puts people at the centre of the story — not just as listeners or viewers, but as creators, leaders, and changemakers! Because here’s the thing: everyone has a voice — but not everyone gets heard. And we’re sick of that!
We’re a not-for-private-profit company that operates on CIC-style principles, which basically means this: All profits are reinvested into the company. We’re in it to make change, not just make money. We have don’t have shareholders or stakeholders, and never will!
We exist to reinvest in people, not pad out pockets. We champion local voices, especially the ones that get talked over. We train, support, lift, laugh, and occasionally launch full-blown creative chaos from a kitchen table covered in empty mugs and to-do lists scribbled on chip shop receipts. We don’t care about polish. We care about people! We believe media should belong to the many, not the few — and we’re building something bold to prove it. If it’s authentic, if it’s passionate, if it’s full of heart and a bit of biscuit dust… it belongs here!
Our Origin Story
Born in lockdown. Fuelled by pure Geordie stubbornness. Built by one lass & about six hundred steak bakes.
The Ten Commandments of Urban Voices
Every decision we make starts with this: does it serve real people? If it doesn’t help the community, it doesn’t happen. No exec bonuses, no vanity projects — just real impact.
We’re not here for echo chambers. We amplify voices that don’t usually get heard — no degrees, no connections, no gatekeeping required. If you’ve got something real to say, welcome to the mic.
Media should never be a members-only club. We kick open the doors for everyone. If you’re here to learn, share, create, or question — the space is yours.
We’re not interested in spin, gloss, or fluff. Real stories, real talk, real lives — that’s what earns trust. We’ll take honest chaos over polished nonsense any day.
Yes, we care. No, we’re not perfect. We believe in kindness, humour, and patience — even when the tech crashes and someone drops their sandwich on the studio desk. Again.
We don’t wait to be “experts.” We jump in, mess up, and grow. Every stumble is part of the story. Every blooper belongs on the timeline.
Your nan who runs the community café? The youth worker changing lives on a shoestring? Heroes, the lot of them. We celebrate our own — loud and proud.
Joy is essential, not optional. If we’re not laughing, dancing, or singing off-key once in a while — we’ve missed the point. Joy is how we survive, how we connect, and how we rebel.
This isn’t a solo act. We collaborate, support, and show up for each other. Nobody climbs alone. Nobody gets left behind.
Some of the greatest ideas were born over a brew and a rant. Formal meetings are fine — but never underestimate the magic of a biscuit-fuelled brainstorm.
What Our Commandments Really Mean
When we say “commandments,” we don’t mean rules you get told off for breaking. These aren’t carved into stone tablets by some media overlord in a London boardroom. They were written — like everything here — with community in mind, from the ground up, over endless cups of cold coffee and the odd existential meltdown.
These ten statements are the backbone of Urban Voices. They aren’t just principles we put on a wall and ignore. They’re the promises we make every single day — to the people we serve, to ourselves, and to the future we’re building.
